KDP Cover
Turn any JPG or PNG into a print-ready Amazon KDP cover PDF with the exact trim, bleed and spine width KDP requires. Full back-spine-front wrap, front cover only, or a Kindle eBook cover.
How it works
Drop in your cover art
A JPG or PNG of the front cover: the artwork you had made, an eBook cover, or a design from Canva. Nothing is uploaded; it is drawn in this tab.
Enter the book
Trim size, paper and page count, exactly as set up on KDP. The spine width is worked out from them, and the back cover is made from your art, a colour, or a second picture.
Download the cover PDF
One PDF at the exact size KDP's cover calculator gives, with 0.125 in bleed, the barcode area kept clear, and 300 dpi artwork. Upload it as the paperback cover.
KDP cover converter: JPG or PNG to a print-ready KDP cover PDF
This kdp cover converter turns the JPG or PNG of your front cover into the one file Amazon KDP asks for: a PDF of back, spine and front at the exact size, with 0.125 in bleed. Enter the trim, paper and page count and it works as a kdp cover size calculator and a kdp spine width calculator at once, then draws the cover to those numbers.
JPG to KDP cover and PNG to KDP cover PDF in one step: no Photoshop template, no guessing where the fold goes. The KDP full wrap cover comes with the back made from your art, a colour or a second picture, the title on the spine when the book is thick enough, and the barcode area kept clear.
Have only an eBook cover? This ebook cover to paperback cover converter builds the back and spine round it. It also works as a general book cover converter for a front cover with bleed or a 1600 × 2560 Kindle cover.
KDP cover size: the formula
Width = 0.125 + trim width + spine + trim width + 0.125 in; height = trim height + 0.25 in. Spine = pages × 0.002252 in (white paper, black and white or standard colour), × 0.0025 in (cream) or × 0.002347 in (premium colour). A 6 × 9 in book of 300 pages on white paper is 12.926 × 9.25 in.
Why KDP rejects covers
The cover is the wrong size for the page count, art or text sits in the bleed or over the fold, the barcode area is covered, or the image is under 300 dpi. The guides and the sharpness check here catch each one before you upload.
Magazines, flyers and other printers
The same page gives a front cover with 0.125 in bleed on every side, the size most print shops want for a magazine cover, a flyer or an IngramSpark front. For a coloring book interior, use the KDP coloring page maker.

Why it matters
The spine, worked out for you
Page count times the thickness of the paper: 0.002252 in a page on white, 0.0025 on cream, 0.002347 on premium colour. Change the page count and the whole cover resizes.
Guides you can see
Trim, bleed, the safe area for text, the spine folds and the 2 × 1.2 in barcode area are drawn over the preview and left out of the file, so nothing important is cut off.
A sharpness check
Your picture's real print resolution on the front is shown before you download, with the pixel size it needs to reach 300 dpi.
Questions
Is this KDP cover converter free?
Yes, and your picture is never uploaded: the cover is drawn in your browser.
Can I use a Canva design?
Yes. Export the front cover from Canva as PNG at the largest size, drop it here, and download the full cover PDF.
Does it make a hardcover case laminate cover?
Not yet. Hardcover covers add a 0.51 in wrap and hinge areas and use KDP's own spine table; this page makes paperback, front-only and Kindle covers.
How do I turn a JPG or PNG into a KDP cover PDF?
Drop the picture in, choose the trim size, paper type and page count you set on KDP, and download the PDF. It is one page at the full cover size - back, spine and front - with bleed, which is the file KDP's cover upload asks for.
How wide is my spine?
Page count × 0.002252 in for black and white or standard colour on white paper, × 0.0025 in on cream, and × 0.002347 in on premium colour. A 300-page book on white paper has a 0.676 in spine.
What size is a 6 × 9 KDP cover?
Width = 0.125 + 6 + spine + 6 + 0.125 in, height = 9.25 in. At 300 pages on white paper that is 12.926 × 9.25 in, or 3878 × 2775 px at 300 dpi.
Can I put text on the spine?
KDP allows spine text only on books of more than 79 pages, and it must sit 0.0625 in inside each fold. Below that the spine is left plain here, and the page says why.
Where does the barcode go?
KDP prints it in a 2 × 1.2 in area at the bottom right of the back cover, 0.25 in from the spine and the bottom edge. Keep text and faces out of that box; tick "white barcode box" for a clean white patch.
What resolution does KDP need?
300 dpi at the printed size. A 6 × 9 front with bleed needs about 1838 × 2775 px. A smaller picture still converts, and the page tells you how soft it will print.
Can I make just the front cover, or a Kindle eBook cover?
Yes. "Front cover only" gives the trim plus 0.125 in bleed on every side; "Kindle eBook" gives a 1600 × 2560 px JPG, the shape and size KDP recommends.
Does KDP accept RGB?
Yes. KDP prints from RGB PDFs and converts the colour itself; the cover here is RGB at 300 dpi, which is what KDP asks for.
