SVG to DXF

Free online SVG to DXF converter. Convert SVG to DXF and get DXF geometry in real millimetres for AutoCAD, Fusion 360, LightBurn, laser cutters and CNC. Reads the SVG at any size, so the result is as sharp as you need. Runs in your browser: nothing uploaded, no sign-up.

How it works

  1. Upload your artwork

Mono mode is preset, a single cut outline is what a machine wants, not colour layers.

  2. Set your real size

Choose millimetres or inches and the finished width. The file carries physical units, not pixels.

  3. Check the preview, then cut

Inspect the toolpath before you download. Cuts draw solid, rapids dashed.

SVG to DXF here keeps the curves smooth: every Bézier is flattened to a tolerance you set, so circles stay round instead of turning into visible facets. This svg to dxf converter also reads the SVG’s real size from its width, height and viewBox, so a 100 mm design is 100 mm in CAD.

To convert svg to dxf, drop the SVG in and download. Choose R2000 (the default, read by everything current) or R12 for older CAM. It is built as svg to dxf for cnc routers, svg to dxf plasma tables, and svg to dxf autocad drawings.

SVG to DXF for LightBurn, SheetCAM and Vectric

LightBurn reads SVG itself, but many shops standardise on DXF. SheetCAM and Vectric (VCarve, Aspire) prefer closed polylines on one layer, which is what this writes; open paths are listed so you can fix them before cutting.

Why it matters

Correct units, stated in the file

DXF exports write $INSUNITS. Without it a part imports at 25.4x the intended size, which is the single most common cause of a ruined first cut.

Y axis the right way up

SVG puts +Y down the screen; CAD and CAM put it up. We flip it. Exporting without that correction gives a part mirrored about the X axis, it cuts, but backwards.

Closed contours

A cutter following an open outline leaves the part attached. Outlines are closed, and anything that is not is flagged before you download.

Conservative G-code

The tool is disengaged before every reposition, retracted before every rapid, and the program always ends tool-off and clear.

Is SVG to DXF worth paying for?

A DXF is the file a shop actually runs. Walk through the artwork requirements a laser cutter, a CNC shop or a sign maker publishes and the same request appears: send something a machine can follow. What turns up instead is a screenshot or a logo pulled off a website at 600 pixels, and somebody redraws it by hand — twenty-five to forty minutes — or sends it to an art service at $25 to $60 a file.

The conversion here is free and unlimited and stays that way. The paid plan is what unlocks the machine formats, which are never watermarked at any tier because a mark in a cut file is extra cut paths a machine would run.

Questions

Why are my curves jagged after converting SVG to DXF?

The converter you used split each curve into too few straight segments. Here curves are flattened to a fine tolerance, and you can tighten it further. Some old CAM software also shows arcs as facets on screen but cuts them smoothly.

Can I use an SVG to DXF file on a CNC or plasma table?

Yes. The DXF has closed paths, real units and no embedded images. For plasma, check that small inner pieces have bridges, and use the cut-ready checker first.

Should I use R12 or R2000 DXF?

R2000 for anything current (AutoCAD, Fusion 360, LightBurn, SheetCAM). R12 for older plasma controllers and CAM software that reject newer files.

Why is my DXF the wrong size?

The SVG had no physical size, so it was read as pixels. Set the width here and the DXF is written at exactly that size.

What units does the file use?

Whichever you pick, millimetres or inches, and the choice is written into the file header so the receiving software does not have to guess.

Will this work with my laser?

DXF is written as R2000 by default, which LightBurn, Fusion, AutoCAD and current CAM packages all read. There is an R12 option for older controllers that predate LWPOLYLINE.

Can I trust the G-code?

Preview the toolpath first, and dry-run any new program above the material. The generated code assumes you have set your own work origin, and it homes nothing.
