Is My SVG Cut-Ready?

Check for embedded bitmaps, open paths and missing units before you send it to the machine.

Runs in your browser · Nothing uploaded

Works with: LightBurn · Cricut Design Space · Fusion 360 · any CAM

Drop several files at once to convert the whole folder in one pass. Got a different format? A PNG, JPG, HEIC, PDF, SVG or DXF still comes out as Report.

Or paste SVG code

How it works

  1. Drop the file in

Checked in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. Read the findings

Errors first, then warnings, then notes, each explaining what it means on the machine.

  3. Fix and re-check

Most problems are a re-export away.

Is my svg cut ready? Drop it in and this svg checker lists what a cutter will trip on: open paths, embedded bitmaps, text that was never converted to outlines, missing units, zero-width strokes and duplicate lines.

Use it to check svg for laser cutting before you waste a sheet, and to find svg open paths that stop Cricut Design Space and LightBurn from filling or cutting a shape.

Why it matters

Catches the 25.4x disaster

A DXF with no declared units makes your CAM software guess. Guessing wrong is the most common reason a part comes out 25.4 times too big or too small, and you find out after the cut.

Spots a bitmap in SVG clothing

Several converters wrap your original PNG inside an SVG tag instead of tracing it. It looks like an SVG and opens like one, but there is nothing for a blade to follow.

Flags entities controllers reject

SPLINE, ELLIPSE, HATCH and TEXT are common causes of a file being refused or silently mangled on import.

Free, and honest about its limits

A static check cannot catch duplicate overlapping lines or tell you the design is the one you meant to cut.

Questions

What are open paths and why do they matter?

An open path has a start and an end that do not meet. A cutter can follow it, but it cannot fill it, offset it for kerf, or weed it. A shape you meant to cut out needs a closed path.

Why does my laser software reject my SVG?

Common reasons: the design is an embedded bitmap rather than paths, text is still live text in a font the laser PC does not have, the SVG has no width and height in real units, or it uses features like masks and filters the software ignores. The checker names which.

Why does my SVG import at the wrong size?

It has no physical units, so the software guesses a DPI. Set width and height in mm or inches.

What does $INSUNITS do?

It is the DXF header field that states whether the numbers in the file are millimetres or inches. Without it every piece of software downstream has to guess.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser.

Does passing mean it will cut perfectly?

No. It means the common structural faults are absent. It cannot verify the design itself.
