Remove Text from Image
Brush over words, captions or a date stamp and have the background rebuilt where they were. Free, private, no upload.
How it works
Upload the picture
JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or TIFF. It opens here, in your browser, and is never sent anywhere.
Paint over the text
Brush over it, or drag a box round it. Cover all of it with a little margin, including any shadow or outline; the eraser takes back a stroke that went too far.
Remove, and download
The marked area is rebuilt from the picture around it. Anything left? Paint over what remains and remove again. Undo steps back; hold Compare to see the original.
Remove text from image: erase text from photo, remove caption from image
Brush over words, captions or a date stamp and the background is rebuilt where they were. Remove text from image files privately: the picture is edited in your browser and never uploaded.

Why it matters
Rebuilt, not blurred
The fill is made of the picture's own texture - grass, sky, brick, fabric, skin - matched patch by patch, with the grain and noise of the photo around it, so it does not show as a smudge.
Private
The picture is processed in your browser and never uploaded: a family photo, a scanned document or a client's product shot stays on your computer.
Full resolution
The picture comes back at the size it went in, as PNG, JPG or WebP, with nothing added: no watermark of ours on top of the one you removed.
Questions
Is it legal to remove a watermark?
From your own pictures, or ones you have permission to edit, yes: a date stamp on your photo, a logo on your own product shot, a watermark from a preview you have since licensed. Removing a watermark from someone else's work to use it without paying is copyright infringement in most countries, and in the US removing copyright information can break the DMCA as well. Use this on pictures you have the right to change.
What does it remove well?
Marks over texture and open background: sky, water, grass, walls, floors, fabric, skin, plain studio backdrops. Date stamps, corner logos, captions, small objects, wires, blemishes, a stray person against scenery.
What does it not remove well?
A watermark tiled across the whole picture, or one over a face, text or a detailed object: the fill copies from what is around it, and cannot know what was under the mark. For those, the only faithful fix is the unmarked original.
Why does a trace of the watermark remain?
Part of it was not painted over - a soft shadow or an anti-aliased edge the eye barely sees. Paint a little wider than the mark and remove again.
Is there a limit on size?
Pictures up to 24 megapixels are worked on at full size; bigger ones are scaled to that. Each marked area takes a second or two; a large one on a big photo can take longer.
