Timeline Maker: Create a Timeline Online

Create a timeline for a history project, company milestones, a project plan or a roadmap: type the events, pick a horizontal, vertical, arrow, step, card or road layout, and download a print-ready PDF, PNG or SVG.

How it works

  1. Pick a timeline

History project, company milestones, project plan, how-it-works steps, a life story, a product roadmap, a school year or tech history, each filled in so you can see the result first.

  2. Type your events

A date, what happened and a few words for each, in the Events panel or by clicking an event on the page. Reorder them with the arrows; give one an icon or its own colour.

  3. Choose the look and download

A line across or down the middle, arrows, numbered steps, dated cards or a winding road; seventeen styles, every colour and font changeable, a photo behind it if you like. Then a PDF to print, a PNG for slides, or everything at once.

This timeline maker turns a list of dates into a clear picture of what happened when. Type each event, pick a layout, and the timeline creator lays it out evenly, with a colour for each event and room for a line of detail.

Use it as a history timeline maker for a school project, a project timeline for a plan, or a roadmap for a product. The horizontal timeline maker layout reads left to right on a landscape page; the vertical timeline suits long histories on a portrait page.

How to create a timeline

Decide the span and pick the five to eight events that matter most. Put them in order with their dates, give each a short title and a line of explanation, and choose a layout that suits them: a line for history, arrows for phases, numbered steps for a process, cards for a life story. That is how to create a timeline people read at a glance; to create a timeline with more events, continue it on a second page.

A timeline template to start from

Eight templates come filled in, from the history of flight to a product roadmap, so a timeline template shows the finished look first; change the words and they keep the layout. It works as a timeline generator for anything with dates.

Questions

Can I add pictures to my timeline?

Yes. Upload a photo under Uploads and drag it next to an event, or set a picture as the whole background and fade it.

Can I use it for a presentation?

Yes. Download a PNG at 300 dpi for slides, or an SVG that stays sharp at any size.

How do I create a timeline?

List the events in order with their dates, choose a layout (across, down, arrows, steps, cards or a road), and keep each event to a short title and a line of detail. Add a title that says what the timeline is about, then download it as a PDF or a picture.

How many events can a timeline have?

As many as fit: five to eight read best on one page. For more, add a second page and continue there; the PDF holds every page.

Can I make a vertical timeline?

Yes. "Line down the middle" puts the events either side of a vertical line, which suits long histories and portrait pages.

Can I make a project timeline or roadmap?

Yes. The Project plan template uses arrows for phases, and the Product roadmap draws a road with each milestone on a signpost.
