Printable Banner Maker: Print a Banner on A4 or Letter Paper
Design a banner, then download it as a PDF cut into A4 or US Letter sheets for your own printer. Each sheet overlaps the next, with a dashed line to trim and its row and column printed on it, so the pieces tape together into one long banner.

How it works
Choose the banner size
Metric (2 x 1 m, 3 x 1 m, 1.5 x 0.5 m) or feet (4 x 2, 6 x 3, 8 x 4 and 10 x 3 ft). The design is drawn at that size.
Pick a template
A sale, a business with a photo, graduation, an event, a grand opening, a church service, a birthday party or hiring. Change every word, colour and photo.
Send it to the printer
The print-shop PDF has 3 mm of bleed and crop marks; EPS and SVG suit sign makers who cut vinyl. A JPG or PNG is there to share it first.
A banner from your own printer
The printable banner maker is for a banner you print yourself. Design it at its real size, for example 100 x 30 cm, then choose PDF on A4 sheets or PDF on US Letter sheets. The banner is cut into pages your printer can take.
Each sheet overlaps the next by 10 mm. A pink dashed line shows where to trim, and every sheet says its row and column, so the pieces go back together in the right order.
Print at 100% (actual size), not "fit to page", or the pieces will not line up. Trim each sheet at its dashed line, lay it over the white edge of the sheet before it, and tape it from behind.
Which size to choose
The Home printer sizes (100 x 30 cm, 150 x 40 cm, 200 x 50 cm and 48 x 12 in) take between about 8 and 24 sheets. A 6 x 3 ft banner takes over 40 sheets, so for a big outdoor banner download the print-shop PDF instead and have it printed on vinyl.
What a print shop wants
For a vinyl banner a print shop asks for a PDF at the finished size, at 100 to 150 dpi (banners are seen from a distance), with bleed past the edge and no words close to the edge, where eyelets and hems go. The print-shop PDF adds 3 mm of bleed and crop marks.

Why it matters
Drawn at the real size
The PDF is the banner's size in millimetres, so the printer does not have to stretch it.
Big words that read from afar
Templates keep to a few large words: a banner is read from across a street.
Ready for any printer
PDF with bleed, EPS and SVG, the files print and sign shops ask for.

Questions
Is the printable banner free to design?
Yes, converting is free: the conversion and checking the result cost nothing, and the work runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. The side-by-side preview on the converter pages comes with a free account. Saving the finished file is paid: $3.49 for one file ($3.99 for a technical file such as DXF, G-code, STL or embroidery) with no account needed, or included in a plan from $6.99 a month. Downloading the files is on a plan or a one-off purchase.
Why do the sheets overlap?
Home printers cannot print to the edge of the paper. The overlap means there is no white gap where two sheets meet.
Can I print it on Letter paper?
Yes. Choose PDF on US Letter sheets. In the US and Canada it is chosen for you.
What resolution should a banner be?
A large banner seen from a few metres does not need 300 dpi: 100 to 150 dpi at full size is usual. The PDF here is drawn at up to 12,000 pixels across, which is about 150 dpi on a 2 m banner and 100 dpi on a 3 m one.
What are common banner sizes?
2 x 1 m and 3 x 1 m for shop fronts and events, 6 x 3 ft and 8 x 4 ft in the US, and 1.5 x 0.5 m for small shops and tables.
How big should the words be?
About 2.5 cm of letter height for every metre it will be read from: a name read from 10 metres wants letters around 25 cm tall.
Does the printer need bleed?
Most do: choose the print-shop PDF, which carries the colour 3 mm past the edge and marks where to cut. Ask yours if they also want room for eyelets or a pole pocket.
