JEF Files for Janome Embroidery
Turn a logo, drawing or lettering into a JEF embroidery file your Janome Embroidery will stitch, sized to fit its hoop.
What this machine needs
- Embroidery area
- 140 x 200 mm (5.5 x 7.9 in)
- Software
- Janome Digitizer
- Formats it imports
- JEF, DST
- Units to export in
- Millimetres
Hoop sizes vary with the hoops you own. Confirm against your machine before stitching.
Works with: Janome Digitizer · JEF · DST
Drop several files at once to convert the whole folder in one pass.
× removes a colour and its shapes; click a swatch to change it. Every format follows.
Batch
Every file is traced on its own at its own resolution, with the settings in the panel. A file converted here comes out identical to the same file converted by itself.

Trace settings
Full-colour trace for print and web.
Fine-tune
Raise it to clear dust, grain and stray dots; 0 keeps every mark.
Untick for pixel art: the outline then follows every pixel edge.
With Remove background: how close a colour must be to the background to go with it.
Machine output
Height follows the source aspect ratio.
Laser and Router follow the traced outlines. Engrave photo burns the picture itself, line by line, for photos and portraits.
Heat transfer vinyl is pressed face down, so it has to be cut mirrored. The second box is the overcut in millimetres: a drag knife starts each shape pointing the wrong way, and running past the start covers that stretch properly so the piece weeds out clean.
Beam or bit width. Left at zero the tool runs down the centre of the line, so a part finishes one tool width undersize. Set it and the path is offset by half, with holes offset the opposite way.
Holes before the part that holds them, so nothing comes loose while there is still cutting to do. Also shortens the travel between cuts.
Optimise
PNG is always lossless and full resolution.
Getting the size right
Set the output width in the panel and the file carries real units, not pixels. A design that fits 140 x 200 mm (5.5 x 7.9 in) will load without rescaling, and rescaling after export is where parts come out wrong.
For this machine, 112mm is a sensible starting width, about 80 percent of the work area, which leaves room for the hoop frame and for the difference between the stated size and the usable one.
Questions
Will the Janome Embroidery read this file?
The download is JEF, the format the Janome Embroidery reads, sized inside its 140 x 200 mm (5.5 x 7.9 in) field. Load it through Janome Digitizer. Check the stitch preview and the colour list here first, so you know what you are loading.
What size should I export at?
Anything up to 140 x 200 mm (5.5 x 7.9 in). Set the width before downloading rather than scaling afterwards, because scaling a machine file after export is what puts parts out of true.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the artwork never leaves your machine.
