The checker reports what the file declares before you rely on it.

  3. Export

Units are written into the output so the next program does not have to guess.

DWG to PDF here reads the AutoCAD drawing itself - lines, arcs, circles, polylines, text and layer colours - and writes them into the PDF as vector lines, so the drawing stays sharp however far you zoom.

This dwg to pdf converter reads DWG files saved by AutoCAD R13 through 2018 and later formats that keep the same structure. The page is sized to the drawing, at its real scale.

It works as a free autocad to pdf converter with no AutoCAD licence and nothing to install: the file is read in your browser and never uploaded, which matters for drawings under NDA.

To convert dwg to pdf, drop the file in, check the preview, and download. AutoCAD to PDF in one step, for sending a drawing to a client, a printer or a site team who do not have CAD.

Why it matters

Units survive the trip

The most common way a CAD interchange goes wrong is a file arriving with no declared units. Our DXF output always states them.

Extents reported, not assumed

The real drawing bounds are read from the geometry rather than trusted from a header that may be stale.

Entity types flagged

SPLINE, ELLIPSE, HATCH and TEXT are the entities that most often fail on import. They are reported before you find out at the machine.

Nothing uploaded

Client drawings stay on your machine, which matters when the work is under NDA.

Questions

Can you read DWG?

Yes, in your browser: AutoCAD R13 to 2018 files, with the exception of the 2007 format, which is refused with a message rather than misread. Lines, arcs, circles, polylines, splines, ellipses, blocks and layers are read; text and hatch fills are counted and reported but not drawn. DWG can be written too, as AutoCAD 2000, which every current CAD program opens.

What DXF version do you write?

R2000 by default, which current CAD and CAM packages read. R12 is available for older controllers.

Will my layers survive?

Layer names and colours are kept, and layers that were off or frozen stay that way. Blocks are exploded into their shapes; attributes and paper-space layouts are not carried across.
